School admissions

Children are admitted in the Reception Class of the Pre-Prep following an assessment when they visit the school for a day prior to their entry in September.  The assessment is not a knowledge-based assessment as it is a pre-school assessment; however, we are looking to find the child’s potential.  A number of activities are organised by the Pre-Prep Staff to ascertain memory skills, auditory skills and sequencing skills.

Children entering in Years 1 and 2 are invited to spend a morning in school.  The Year Co-ordinator will assess the child(ren) for basic numeracy skills and literacy skills, including reading, written skills, spelling and reasoning.

Most children entering in Years 3–8 will spend an assessment day in school – this is for the child’s benefit as well as the school.  Children will take the Wide Ranging Ability Test (reading, spelling and mathematics) and will also be assessed in lessons for numeracy and literacy skills as well as other other areas of the curriculum.

When making any assessment we are looking for children that will fit into the present ability band. We would expect all pupils Years 3–8 to attain a minimum standardised age score of 105.

A child who we consider, after assessment, needs some additional support will be informed of this when a place is offered.  Some pupils in Pre-Prep will be offered a conditional place subject to satisfactory progress and passing the entrance assessment to the Prep school.

Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any queries or if you would like a copy of our School Prospectus and Registration Forms.
