Year 6 Trips
STUDY VISIT TO GREENWICH (Autumn 2009)

On Thursday 5th November, Year 6 went to Greenwich. First, we went to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich Park. We got to stand on the Greenwich Meridian Line and stand in the Eastern and Western hemispheres. Then, we went into the Maritime Museum and learnt about the H4 clock and John Harrison. He invented the H4 to win the Longitude prize of £20,000 by making a time-keeping devise that could work at sea and help to measure longitude. We also saw the main telescope which was enormous. We then caught a boat from Greenwich Pier that took us all the way along the Thames to Westminster pier. On the way, we saw many famous landmarks like the Tower of London, Shakespeare’s Globe and the Gherkin. When we arrived at Westminster, we saw the London Eye, Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament. Everyone had a great day out and learnt a lot.

STUDY VISIT TO GREENWICH (Autumn 2008)

When we got to the museum we went to the viewing point. The view was just amazing, you could see Canary Wharf and St Paul’s Cathedral. Then we went into the museums and saw the different clocks and read about what latitude and longitude are. We then walked through the park and past Greenwich University where the Cutty Sark was being rebuilt. From there we went down to the port where we went on a boat called the Old London which was lots of fun. On the boat, we went past the Beckham’s Football Academy and the O2 Arena before going through the Thames Barrier. Then it was time to get off the boat and onto the coach for the trip home. I really enjoyed our trip to Greenwich. Lucia Philpot (6H)
