Match Reports
v Oakham Lost 0-4
We started very brightly and were all over Oakham but we could not convert our chances. Oakham then started to put passes together and scored three quick goals, though defensive errors gifted them two of these. The second half was very even, just one more sloppy goal separating the sides. Evan Morris was outstanding in the middle but there are plenty of others who displayed great potential. SJSC
v Great Houghton 1st XI Lost 2-3
In a cracking, fairly even game, Spratton had a huge amount of possession and territorial advantage but we were unable to convert this into goals. We dominated the middle of the pitch and lead 2-1 with 10 minutes to go but gifted Houghton two late goals. Our passing and movement off the ball was very sharp and the team is certainly making progress. SJSC
v Bilton Grange Lost 1-2
Another very entertaining end to end game of hockey. Bilton had the better of the 1st half but we got away with 0-0 at half-time. An early BG goal in the 2nd half sparked us into life and we forced an equaliser soon after. BG, probably deservedly, snatched the game with a well-taken goal in the last 5 minutes. Matthew Hampton, Nathan Groves and Liam Redding all had excellent games with Ben Thompson making some very good saves. SJSC
v Kimbolton Won 3-1
After dominating much of the first half, we found ourselves 0-1 down at half-time. The boys were more determined and showed more aggression in front of goal in the 2nd half. We attacked down the right side (at last) and this immediately paid dividends with 3 quick goals in the space of 5 minutes, including a terrific strike by Freddie MacNaughton. Another exciting game - but this time a victory. SJSC
v Maidwell 1st XI Lost 1-2
It was always going to be tough playing against a 1st XI with some skilful boys but this was a very even match. After a poor 1st half in which we conceded a goal the boys produced better hockey in the 2nd half and scored early on but, as has happened often this season, we let in a goal in the last 5 minutes. Matthew Hampton and Liam Redding had very good games.
v Trent College U13C Won 3-2
We started sharply with an early goal but then the first half became a rather scrappy affair with players following the ball and not using the space and width of the pitch. Consequently, we were 2-1 down at the break. The half-time was spent refocusing minds and a much better second half followed with attacking play down both flanks. The goals came from Azeez Al-Humaidhi, Liam Redding and Jake Cox - and we didn't concede a late goal!! A good way to end the season. Well done, boys.
