Match Reports
v Trent - Won by 7 wickets
This was an excellent all round performance by the 2nd XI, and shows great promise for the rest of the season. Winning the toss and bowling, all the bowlers showed a consistent line and length making it hard for the opposition to score. Wickets fell fairly regularly, with all bowlers contributing, the pick of the bowlers probably A. Al-Humaidhi with figures of 7 for 2 from 5 overs. Being set 92 to win in 30 overs meant we could bat steadily and the top order all got themselves in, and got some runs, with the victory secured in the 20th over with only 3 wickets down, A. Boon top scoring with 19 not out. Hopefully we can maintain this consistency for the rest of the season.

v Oakham - Lost by 26 runs
A very disappointing batting performance cost us a game we had a chance of winning. After deciding to bowl we managed to consistently take wickets and bowled them out in 24 overs, but never really stopped the runs flowing, and they got 145. With 30 overs to get them if we had batted solidly it would have been close, but 2 wickets in the 1st over, and 5 gone after 10 overs left only the tail to get the runs. Despite a solid rearguard headed by N. Groves on 29* we only got to 119, and ended feeling 'what if' we had made a more solid start. Plenty to work on in the nets!

v Maidwell - Lost by 66 runs
An extremely disappointing result in a game that we had started well in. After putting Maidwell in to bat, a wicket with the 1st ball seemed to show great promise, and after some resilience from Maidwell, a mid-innings collapse saw them at 65-6, and all out for 112, top wicket taker L. Redding with 3 for 13. However, another top order collapse of catastrophic proportions saw Spratton at 10 for 6 from just 6 overs. A gallant rearguard from T. Wilson on 11 not out didn't stop us being bowled out for 46. Two games in a row of batting collapses shows a greater need for resilience, improved technique and general application by the batsmen. Much work will need doing before the next game!

v Winchester House - Won by 4 wickets
A great result in a timed game, which again saw us bowling first and having to try and take wickets. Again all the boys bowled well and chipped in with regular wickets, and despite the extremely gusty conditions we managed to bowl them out for 120 in exactly 30 overs, with O. Rice the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 10 from 5 overs. A more solid start by N. Groves and M. Clifton got us going, and despite a mini collapse that saw us at 21 for 4, a solid partnership between N. Groves and O.Rice of 44, followed by two partnerships of about 30, saw us home in 30 overs and 1 ball! A super innings by O. Rice of 66 not out was the highlight of a much needed solid batting performance. Good comeback boys, lets see the same mettle in the next games!

v Bilton Grange - Won by 3 wickets
Another good performance from the whole team saw us come through against a resilient Bilton. After putting them into bat, we bowled well again, with all 10 outfielders bowling and restricting them to 83 all out, top figures by A. Boon with 4 for 6 from 5 overs, and B. Measom 3 for 12 from 5 overs. Although only a low total was needed in the chase, with a slightly altered batting line up we needed to concentrate. A solid start was made but then 3 wickets went down quickly in 3 overs, a mini recovery was launched, but then another 3 wickets in 4 balls saw us at 57-7 and struggling. However, J. Glew (23 not out) and H. Pease steered us over the line with some strong stroke play.

v Kimbolton - Lost by 52 runs
A disappointing performance in a game we never really showed our best, in any department. Our bowling and fielding, usually our strongest area, was only average, with far too many wides and midfield's, dropped catches and lack of wickets. Kimbolton batted very well and posted 157 for the loss of only 2 wickets. This would be a tall order for our batting line up, but a solid start was made by H. Pease (10) and L. McManus. However, once a wicket fell, a steady flow followed, and despite several players getting a start and scoring double figures, no one was able to get themselves in and really striking the ball for 4's which was needed. B. Measom top scored with 12 but we never really looked like getting there and were all out in the penultimate over for 105. We must bounce back from this in the next game.

v Witham Hall 20/20 - Won by 102 runs
This was a good all round performance by the team, bouncing back after a poor performance on Wednesday. We Batted first and got off to a flying start. with B. Measom (26) and O. Rice (26) scoring quickly before retiring. L. McManus (22), J. Glew (23) and M. Cunningham (17) all scored well, and we got to 158 for 5 from our 20 overs. With such a large target all we needed to do was bowl straight and consistently. All 10 outfield bowlers got their chance, but we didn't take a wicket until the 8th over. Then a steady fall of wickets began, with H. Pease taking 3 in his 1 over, and we polished them off for 56. With one game to go it would be nice to think we will finish the season with another performance like this one.

v Wellingborough - Won by 1 wicket
In our final game we again managed to bowl first, and after taking a couple of early wickets look well set to dominate. However, a well constructed 50 by one of the opposition saw them reach a reasonable total of 124 for 9 from their 30 overs, and despite taking steady wickets, we gave away more runs than we should have. In reply we needed a steady performance from the batsmen, and this was only really supplied by M. Clifton who batted superbly for 18, but more importantly was there for 20 overs. Several other batsmen came and went cheaply, when they could have played a more careful innings, but they seemed intent on giving their wickets away! It was only the 60 extras bowled by Wellingborough that saw us over the line, in a game that came down to a last wicket needing 2 to win, and M. Hampton providing the heroics! An unnecessarily close game to finish an overall pleasing season!
