Match Reports

Spratton batted first scoring a solid 154/6

J. Cotton 46

Trent made 108/7

H. Mallinder 2 for 27             H. Stride 2 for 21

Spratton won by 46 runs - GB

v Oakham (6.5.09) 30/30 game

Oakham managed 83 all out        18 Overs

R. Povey 2 for 2         H. Mallinder 2 for 3          M. Russell 2 for 16                M. Rose 2 for 17

In reply, Spratton got there in the end with some determined middle order batting, scoring 84/6, 21Overs

H. Stride 28 not out and mention must go to Azeez for contributing to a committed stand of 40 runs in the middle after a top order collapse. A good fightback!

Spratton won by 4 wickets - GB

v Maidwell (9.5.09) 30/30 game

Spratton scored a reasonable 132 for 4

M. Rose a brilliant 52 not out well supported by J Cotton(45) and H Stride (20).

However we did not reach our intended target of 150 due to another top order collapse.

Maidwell reached 133 for 6 with 2 overs to spare

M. Russell with a hard fought 2 for 21 and a determined effort from M Rose 2 for 34 at the end.

Our fielding was generally solid however, we did concede about 24 runs from simple mis fields. Our fielding is something we thrive on to be perfect, more practice then.

v Winchester House (16.5.09) 30/30 game

WHS scored 130 for 7

An excellent opening bowling spell between Russell and Mallinder kept the WHS boys under pressure, their first 10 overs only going for 16 runs.

Spratton managed to reach the target on the last ball of the game with Russell smashing a 4 over cover. Another tremendous batting performance from the middle order scoring runs all over the field. Considering at one stage we needed 54 from 6 overs, Povey and Mourant(28) destroying the WHS bowlers by using their feet and showing great composure and self belief. Then there was Max's little cameo innings of 11 not out under extreme pressure with Povey(33 not out) to finish it off.

I thought Matthews captaincy was very good.

What a game, this will surely go down as one of the best games in Spratton's history of cricket.

Spratton won by 3 wickets

GB

v Oundle (20.5.09) 25/25 over game

Spratton batted first with a slight change in order scoring 151 for 6 in 25 overs.

Third time lucky for James who has been batting superbly well this season making a fine 72. Henry contributed with a well played 20 and the others chipping in with some runs.

Oundle managed to reach 48 all out.

B. Kennedy taking a fanatstic 5 for 18 from 5 overs.

Harry and Max with yet another great opening spell getting 4 wickets between them.

Spratton won by 103 runs.

v Kimbolton  (13.06.09)  30/30 over game

Spratton won the toss and decided to bat first on an average track that moved around a bit. We scored a defendable 116 for 6. B. Kennedy scoring 39 not out and R. Povey 21.

We must give credit to the Kimbolton bowlers who held their line and legth and made our batsmen play. Knowing our potential attributes in the field, we came out on tops with Liam Redding the hero of the day. We bowled Kimbolton out eventually for 63. With Redding taking a magnificant 6 for 6 off 4 overs and Povey getting 3 for 9.

This was definately our best bowling and fielding performance of season so far. A congratulations must go the whole team for their committed efforts to defend 116.

Spratton won by 53 runs

We now look forward to the 20 /20, then we head off on tour.

v Witham      (17.06.09)        20/20 game

Witham batted first getting a challenging 122 for 5. With all the bowlers chipping in with a wicket a piece. Spratton for the first time this year made a solid opening batting partnership of 42, S Williams 22. However, also for the first time our middle order found it quite challenging to keep the scoreboard ticking and we found ourselves in trouble at 115 for 9. Considering we had the game in our hands, being 63 for 2 after 10 overs. A good game of cricket was enjoyed by both teams.

v Stroud        (19/20.06.09)     2 inngs match

Spratton won the toss and decided to bat first on a very good batting track. We made 218 for 2 with Henry Stride scoring a brilliant 101 not out and James Cotton making 50 not out.

Stroud struggled to 105 all out with Harry Mallinder once again the pick of the bowlers claiming 4 for 14 and Matthew Rose 2 for 4. Spratton set the standard in the field with some superb stops.

On the second day Spratton carried over 113 runs and we decided to bat for 19 overs giving us 31 overs to bowl Stroud out. Spratton again consolidated with the bat scoring a solid 153 for 2 with Ben Kennedy 47 and Rob Povey 53 not out.

Stroud were sent into bat after lunch chasing a daunting 266 to win. They began to play the defensive game managing to keep our bowlers out until the spinners came on with Ben Kennedy getting a fantastic 6 for 8. Spratton ended up bowling them out for a 49.

A thoroughly deserved win for the Spratton boys.

v Wellingborough            1.07.09        30/30 game

Wellinborough won the toss and put themselves into bat. Spratton were outstanding in the field and every bowler contributed, what a team effort. We bowled them out for 67. With Matthew Rose claiming 4 for 6 and Bill Measom 2 for 13. An excellent patient innings from our openers saw them get their 50 run partnership before Ben fell for a solid 23. We got the total with one wicket down with Henry Stride Stride securing the win with 36 not out.

An excellent end to the season for a talented bunch of boys!
