Resources

RESOURCES:

  • Course books “ Alex ET Zoë” is used in Year 4 and "Tricolore Total 1,2,3” in Years 5,6,7,8.
  • We also used Top GCSE and AS level resources for the scholarship group so as to meet the demands of various scholarship exams. Likewise all year 7 and year 8 forms will be given regular vocabulary lists and grammar rules to be tested in lessons.
  • The relevant "Tricolore Total” CDs, tapes, repromasters, grammar sheets and flashcards supplement the textbooks. “ Alex et Zoë” provides the main focus for year 4 with the respective audio cassettes, workbook and repromasters. Gaston 1 for year 3. “ La Jolie Ronde” for year 2 and “ Early start” for year 1.
  • Textbooks. Additional sets of books for reading and listening comprehension and role-play practice supplement the course books:
  • Individual reading. A library of French books is available for private reading, as well as sets of readers (“ Vu et Lu” and “Bibliothèque”); The pupils can also benefit from our subscription to Mary Glagow magazine: “Allons-y; Ca Va; Bonjour”
  • ICT: We have a subscription to www.linguascope.com on the internet: the latter offers a wide variety of topics and games in four different languages. We also subscribed to www.linguastars.com  ( GCSE French language work) and www.linguaprime.com for the junior section of the school. We are also working from www.languagesonline.org.uk which is based on Tricolore Total 1 and 2 coursebooks.
  • Whiteboard resources from Encore Tricolore 1 are used in lessons with year 5 and 6 to reinforce the language learning and to enthuse the pupils with exciting and challenging language work.
  • Video. A wide range of videotapes provides an important visual element of all courses, for all ages.
  • “Realia”. Authentic materials form an essential part of the learning process and provide exciting opportunities for role-playing and drama.
  • Audiocassettes. Audiocassettes of both the spoken word and songs are used extensively and children are encouraged to record themselves on tape.
  • Flashcards and games. Sets of flashcards and board games, both bought (Monopoly, Cluédo… ) and those designed by pupils themselves, reinforce vocabulary and topics.
