Reception
The
first years of a child's education are a very important time. We endeavour to harness children’s enthusiasm and curiosity by offering them a curriculum that allows them to learn through guided play and practical experiences, and more importantly to become well mannered, caring and responsible individuals.
first years of a child's education are a very important time. We endeavour to harness children’s enthusiasm and curiosity by offering them a curriculum that allows them to learn through guided play and practical experiences, and more importantly to become well mannered, caring and responsible individuals. As they are still at the Foundation Stage, the Reception curriculum is delivered through a topic approach to encompass the six areas of learning. Reading and writing are taught using a multi-sensory approach combining phonics and ‘look and say’ methods. All children read on a one-to-one basis everyday.
Mathematical concepts are developed through games and free play with counting aids, before being recorded in a slightly more formal manner.
Knowledge and Understanding of the World is taught by incorporating history, geography and science to stimulate the child’s interest. We provide a stimulating environment with numerous opportunities for children to express themselves through music, role-play and art activities, which contribute to colourful and stimulating displays in the classroom.
P.E. and Games are taught by specialist staff to give all the children opportunities to extend gross and fine motor skills. The outside play area also allows them to develop physically when riding on bikes and scooters, and using the climbing frame.
