French

French is introduced to all children in the school from year one. Lessons are conducted totally in French whenever possible and the children are encouraged to respond with confidence and enjoyment. A wide range of resources is used to supplement the coursework, providing a dynamic and multi-sensory approach to language learning with the accent on communication. The children are also introduced to French life and culture; study-visits to France are organised to further these interests and extend and consolidate the language work of the classroom.

The children in Year 6 and 7 are expected to attend study-visits in France when they are encouraged to extend and consolidate the language work of the classroom. Children are encouraged to participate in drama, from the small, spontaneous role-playing to the more theatrical productions for open days and school assemblies.
