Match Reports
v Winchester House 16.09.09 Won 5-0
An excellent start to the season. A good all round team performance with some strong attacking and defensive work. A big thank you to the U10 boys who stepped in at the last minute, with a special mention to Calum Renshaw for scoring the winning try and Miles Budd for some outstanding defence including one very memorable try saving big hit. Well done and let's hope this is a sign of things to come!! CB
v Witham Hall 19.09.09 Won 21-7
An impressive all round performance with some strong ball carrying, superb rucking and excellent running lines. The pack functioned well winning the majority of scrums thanks to some excellent hooking by Christian Rodley. The half back pairing of Will Leng and Calum Renshaw marshalled the game very well, always keeping us on the front foot through quick ball and then either good kicking or strong running. Well done! CB
v Maidwell Hall 10.10.09 Won 28-0
A very competitive match! Fortunately Spratton were the more clinical due to the extra pace in our backs. The forwards worked very well, dominating the set-pieces and creating a lot of turn over ball at rucks. The defensive line was never broken and our backs always looked dangerous. Special mention to our two props who both played exceptionally well. CB
v Bedford Prep 14.11.09 Lost 10-60
A very one sided match against big school with many more numbers from which to choose. It was encouraging to see the boys keep trying and eventually score two tries but it was a very disjointed performance. It is one of those games we have to learn from and then move on from. CB
v Bilton Grange 18.11.09 Won 19-14
A superb team effort. While we dominated position and territory the lead kept changing hands. Everyone played their best game so far this season and thanks to a very strong pack performance and the best tackling I have seen by the Colts B we held on and got a deserved win. K. Mulcahey and E. Carter deserve a special mention for winning a couple of key scums against the head at crucial times. Well done everyone. CB
v Warwick 21.11.09 Lost 14-41
A game of two halves. We started slowly, lacking aggression at the break down which allowed Warwick to get ahead 17-0 by half time. In the second half Spratton came out like a different side and dominated the game for 15 minutes although due to physical difference we were only leading 14-10 and then we tired and conceded 2 late tries. All round a very good effort and encouraging to see the lads not drop. CB
v Wellingborough 25.11.09 Won 42-0
A superb all round performance. Having gained confidence from the second half display against Warwick, the boys came out and were aggressive from the start. We carried and recycled the ball well which meant we kept possession. Our defence has improved dramatically as we are quickly up on the opposition players meaning we make more 'first-up' tackles. Euan Wardrop kicked superbly out of hand gaining good field position and he converted all six of the tries. Edward Carter also deserves a mention as his support play was excellent and he scored three well taken tries. Let's keep this up for the last two games. CB
v St Faith's 02.12.09 Lost 7-17
A disappointing end to a fine season. Although we played well we did not start with the same intensity and aggression seen in the last couple of games and we were down 0-12 at half-time. We came out charging in the second-half, scoring an early try making it 7-12. St Faith's rallied and the rest of the second-half was a midfield battle ending with a couple of injuries and a try on the final whistle for St Faith's. I am really proud of the effort all of the boys have put in this term and I feel we have come on massively as a team throughout the season. I look forward to hearing how many of you do for the senior teams next season!! CB
