BOULOGNE - AUTUMN 2009

When we arrived in Boulogne, we set off for our tour around the town. There were all sorts of different types of shops and everybody brought brightly coloured berets, except Mr Bradnam’s group who got lost and even wetter than the rest of us! We stopped at the bakery to dry off and try out our new French vocabulary and then went on to the cathedral before heading to the hotel.

We had an early start to the next day and went down to the market to find out the names of different fruits and vegetables in French. After that, we had the first highlight of the day, the delightful smelling chocolate factory! There, we had a talk explaining the process of making chocolate, as well as being able to taste the cocoa beans and the finished product.

Then, after that delicious experience, we went to the revolting smelling goat farm!   My favourite animal was the baby calf which had been born the very same day. There were also two five week old rabbits, two baby white kittens and loads of ducklings and chicks. Then, we went on to find out the process of how goats’ cheese is made. We then went to the beach and played rugby and had a sand castle competition.

We finished off the holiday with a trip to the aquarium where we watched a 3D video in French and saw loads of massive sharks, fish, seals and penguins. The best part was when we got to stroke the stingrays!

BOULOGNE - AUTUMN 2008

In October 2008, the children in Year 6 embarked on a three day residential trip to Boulogne Le Touquet. They spent Thursday afternoon Looking round 'La vieille ville de Boulogne' and learning further about French shops and places in town. The next day, Year 6 went to a French café where they ordered a drink in French. They also went to the market in Le Touquet  where there was a magnificent display of local and international foods.

Later they visited a French goat farm where they were told about the making of goats' cheese but also about the running of an animal farm. Then, they visited a chocolate factory and tasted the unique French chocolate. Thursday afternoon ended with a sand castle competition on 'Paris Plage' in Le Touquet. On Friday, they visited 'Nausicaa' (a sea-life centre) where they learnt about  sea life and how to protect the environment. During the visit the children in Year 6 were encouraged to use the vocabulary and expressions taught at school in realistic and authentic situations. They also completed a set of worksheets during our programme of visits as part of their journal project.
