V Bilton Grange Lost 1 - 4

After very little training together the 4th VII had their first game of the season against Bilton Grange. Unfortunately the game was on grass making it even more difficult as our main practices together have been on Astroturf. As a result of this the boys needed to adopt a completely different playing style. The game started closely with very little to choose between the two teams. Bilton then broke the deadlock to make it 1-0 followed by two more in quick succession putting the 4ths 3-0 down. The boys continued to battle hard and their efforts were rewarded with a breakaway counter attack goal by Tom Lerigo after being under pressure for a long period of time. The second half was a completely different story with Spratton spending most of their time in the Bilton half, unfortunately we could not seem to find the finishing touch to get a vital goal, coming close many times. Bilton then relieved the heavy pressure they were under with a breakaway goal of their own to make it 4-1. The scoreline does not reflect how even the two teams were, the boys gave 100% effort and all in all not a bad start to the season with lots of positives to take from the game.

v Trent U12B Lost 1 1 - 12

v Gt Houghton 3rds Lost  0 - 4

In the last 2 games of the season the team were pitched against sides who were a notch above them in terms of ability, skill, pace and experience. In both games the team showed great resilience but were always on the back foot and lost convincingly. What was good to see was the boys determination to keep working throughout, to support each other, and to never give up. Hopefully the experience gained from both games will help them next year.
