Match Reports
v Witham Hall 2nds Drew 1 - 1
An excellent opening performance by the 3rd team was only slightly tainted by the fact we didn't win a game we could have done, based on the chances we created. After going behind to an early breakaway goal, the whole team played some good hockey, passing well, and getting plenty of balls into the opposition D. Several balls flashed across the face of goal but we couldn't turn them in. Eventually C. Schanschieff fired one into the top corner, and throughout the rest of the game we created several more chances but just couldn't take them. A good performance and one we can certainly build on in the forthcoming games.

v Bilton Grange Won 1 - 0
In difficult conditions on a grass pitch this was never going to be as fluid a game as we would have liked, but a battling performance saw us sneak a victory. In a game that needed grit rather than flair, both teams were evenly matched and made equally good chances. The game did get bogged down inevitably at times in the midfield, but persistence by S. Boyd particularly in the midfield, and good defending, meant when our chance came we took it, well converted by C. Schanschieff. The match could have gone either way, but we held on for a good win.

v Oundle Drew 0 - 0
This was an even contest that probably deserved a draw, although either side had spells of pressure which could have resulted in a win for either. The first half saw Spratton camped in their D for the last 10 minutes, while the same happened for Oundle at the beginning of the second half, and it took a couple of great saves by A. Asif in goal, and the post, to deny Oundle. The game was mainly played in the middle third of the pitch and both teams didn't use the width as well as they might, so it become a bit of a scrappy affair. We will need to play better next week.

v Oakham U13C Won 3 - 2
A superb result that showed spirit, determination and some good skilful play. After going behind to 2 early goals, things looked like they would be an uphill struggle, and despite having good build-up play we weren't threatening and looked vulnerable on the break. However, a goal from S. Boyd before half-time drew us close, and then an early one into the second half by C. Schanschieff saw us deservedly level. The momentum was with us, it was just a question of 'if' we could that decisive goal. Chances came and went, but eventually a powerful cross into the D was superbly turned in by J. Flood, and the turn around as complete.

v Trent U12 A Lost 1 - 8
A tough game against an opposition who were always going to be strong, and their skills, movement and passing put us on the back foot from the outset. We were trapped in our D for most the 1st half and 7-0 reflected the dominance Trent had. We fought back well in the 2nd half as they made some changes, and a 1-1 result was welcome relief after a tough 1st half, with the oddest goal of the season scored as it trickled through everyone.

v Gt Houghton 2nds Lost 0 - 8
Again we were playing a team a notch above us in terms of skills and movement, and on a small pitch we struggled to keep them out of our D, and despite the valiant defence we conceded 4 goals each half, which was a fair reflection of the difference in the teams.
