Spratton Hall has developed an impressive reputation on the sports field in recent years and this largely stems from the fact Physical Education and Games are a central part of the school’s life. The major team sports for boys are Rugby, Hockey, Soccer and Cricket. The girls take part in Hockey, Netball and Rounders. All pupils do Athletics during the summer term and there are opportunities for Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance, Basketball and Pilates. Personal fitness and well being is taken seriously within the department and the bulk of the Spring term is given over to Health Related fitness within PE lessons.
The extensive playing fields offer almost unlimited space for the children to enjoy their physical activities. A new astro built in 2007 has provided the school with an outstanding Hockey venue that can also be used for many other sports. The athletics facilities are exceptional with a 400m grass track, all weather approaches for Long Jump and High jump and a new throwing circle laid this summer. All this together with 8 tennis courts and an indoor hall mean we can provide almost unrivalled facilities for a school of this size.
We also run an extensive fixture programme that operates from Year 4 upwards and all pupils are able to represent the school in a team that reflects their abilities. Pupils also have the opportunity of taking part in regular House matches and these form an integral part of a vibrant House competition each term.
In recent years the school has achieved some incredible results on the rugby field with the 1st XV going unbeaten for two years. The team has toured Dublin, Biaaritz and Wales during the last few seasons. A number of Netball teams have gone unbeaten through their season and the Girls Hockey is certainly benefiting from the new astro. In Cross Country last year, the school won the National small schools title in all four age categories, an amazing clean sweep. Over the last 4 years Spratton athletes have consistently won a number of medals at the National Finals, last summer alone gaining 11 medals in total.
