INTRODUCTION
Music plays an important part in the life of the school. Pupils are
taught music in the dedicated Music Block, where singing, theory, composition and
listening are all vital ingredients. Pupils are encouraged to take individual
music lessons employing a variety of instruments. Spratton has a Concert Band,
choirs and a wide range of smaller ensembles which reflect the interests
and ability of the pupils.
Concerts are held regularly and our musicians have extensive opportunities to
participate in the various productions staged by the School.
MUSIC EXAM SUCCESS
Approximately 180 pupils are entered into music exams during the year on many instruments including Voice & Theory. Each term a variety of those obtaining distinctions are invited to perform in the County's high Scorers Concert.

LEARNING AN INSTRUMENT
We offer tuition in many different instruments, over 270 children currently learn at least one instrument each week during an individual 30 minute lesson. Children are taught these lessons during the course of the school day on a rotation basis, although for Year 7 and 8 we try to accommodate a fixed slot before/after school at break time or lunchtime. We have a number of practise rooms and children are encouraged to practise both at school and home. We also have theory groups and aural lessons to help prepare children for the Associated Board or Trinity Guildhall Examinations. The music staff are always happy to offer help and advice when choosing which instrument to take up.
TUITION IS AVAILABLE ON THE FOLLOWING INSTRUMENTS:
Bassoon, Clarinet, Flute, Oboe, Recorder, Saxophone, Cornet, Trumpet, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Cello, Violin, Viola, Bass Guitar, Tin Whistle, Guitar, Percussion/ Drum Kit, Piano and Singing.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We believe ensemble playing is a vital part of performing, enjoying and learning an instrument. Most children learning to play an instrument will take part in an ensemble during their time at Spratton Hall.
Our current music groups consist of: Concert Band, Jazz Band, Rock Band, Guitar Ensemble, Flute Choirs, String Orchestra, String Trio, Woodwind Ensemble, Recorder Clubs, Recorder Trio,Year 2 Choir, Junior Song, School Choir, 'Boys' Choir, Years 7&8 Choir and Theory Groups
EVENTS
During the course of the year various opportunities are given for children to perform. Within each half term we hold an informal concert for individual and group performances, at Christmas we put on a Concert of Christmas Music incorporating as many children as possible. In the summer term we hold various performances featuring pupils and guest performers, these have ranged from professional Opera singers to the pianist from The Royal Ballet. The School Choir regularly sing in the local Church at School Services.
Each term we have pupils who receive distinctions in their Associated Board Exams and go on to represent the school at the High Scorer's Concert in Northampton.
During the Summer Term Spratton Hall hosts a Music Competition sponsored by Bang and Olufsen for all local prep schools. All candidates need to be Grade 4 standard or above. The standard of performance by the candidates each year was second to none - absolutely excellent!
Our pupils have the opportunity to attend music days at other schools,The Kimbolton Bash for all orchestral players and the
Uppingham Orchestral Day for Grade 3 standard and above to name just two.
Each of the events are great experiences for the children.
