Colts B v Great Houghton B (11.10.08)
Spratton won 45-0
A complete change to our previous games this season!!! We played with courage, determination and DIRECTION. It was clear from the start that things were going to change for us as we gave 150% from the first second till the last one.
The only ‘wrong’ in the 1st half was we tended to play individually with everyone wanting to score a try. Once we spoke about this at half time, it changed and, although we did not score as many tires in the 2nd half, we played as a team with the ball moving to both wings on numerous occasions. This provided the spectators with some very entertaining rugby. The positives of the game was our improved rucking, our defence and the way we spread the ball wide from side to side.
There were no players who can be singled out for great play as EVERYONE played fantastic rugby. We ended up with a 45-0 result in our favour!!
Lets work on playing as a team in the coming weeks!! WELL DONE!!

Under10A v Akeley Wood (8.10.08)
Spratton won 40-0
The boys played very well with vastly improved handling and solid, powerful rucking. Some of the timing of the passes was most effective, leading to some very fine tries. An excellent victory.
Under10C v Akeley Wood (8.10.08)
Spratton won 70-15
A great team performance with everyone scoring at least one try and J Bullock leading the scoring with 4 tries!
PREVIOUS RESULTS
Under 10A v Maidwell Hall (4.10.08)
Spratton won 15-10
This was as very close and tough game against a good Maidwell side. Two late tries saw us home but there will have to be improved forward play, better passing and we will need to be much quicker onto the loose ball.
1st XV v Maidwell (4.10.08)
Spratton won 37-0
This was a superb performance from the team who scored 7 tries (1 converted) and also managed to keep the opposition out. The first half was played into a strong wind and the team kept the ball really well and kept kicking to a minimum. After the break, Ben and Harry kicked intelligently to pin Maidwell deep in their own half. The forwards were, once again, fast around the pitch and the backs handled with pace and precision.
2nd XV v Maidwell (4.10.08)
Spratton 5-17
A hard fought game where we tackled the best we have all season, repelling a good Maidwell team many times but, eventually, their superiority of possession and territory told. 5-5 at half time showed what grit we had demonstrated in the first half and the boys should be proud of a good team performance, ably led by Captain, B Thompson, who scored our only try.—Mr Bradnam
3rd VII v Maidwell Hall at home (4.10.08)
Spratton lost 30-55/Spratton lost 15-30
The 3rd’s put up a good fight against Maidwell in both their matches but lost by 55 points to 30 and 30 points to 15. Maidwell boys were always in the driving seat, being quicker to the loose ball and stronger all round in their tackling. A special mention must go to Tim Kubiena who scored all the Spratton tries. Well done Tim.
Colts A v Maidwell (4.10.08)
Spratton won 28-0
We only played 20 minutes against Maidwell but scored 4 good tries in miserable weather conditions. However, we did seem a bit complacent again and we must continue to work hard at finishing off easy opportunities. Colts A now look forward to a tough and challenging 2nd half term.
A good 1st half term boys, the team now needs to step up a few ‘gears’ after half term to continue
3rd VII v Trent at Home (1.10.08)
Match 1
Spratton lost 6-4
The 3rd’s lost a close encounter by 6 tries to 4. Despite some good tackling from our boys, the opposition proved to be too strong in the end and always had a cushion of two tried throughout the match.
Match 2
Spratton won 5-1
An excellent performance by the 3rd’s saw them run out winners by 5 tries to 1. It was very much a team effort and the boys thoroughly deserved their convincing victory.
1st XV v Trent College (1.10.08)
Spratton won 34-5
This was another very convincing performance by the side. The opposition had some very large boys but the defence held tight throughout the match. Several of the tries scored by the team demonstrated excellent continuity between forwards and backs. We now look forward to the big Derby match against Maidwell Hall.
2nd XV v Trent (1.10.08)
Spratton won 15-7
Tries from F Telfer, M Cunningham and M Clifton
Two contrasting games where the boys were overwhelmed in the first half against NSB, as bigger, faster boys dominated against us. The second half saw a much closer contest and the boys fought back well. Against Trent, we came out all guns blazing and shocked the opposition with our direct, powerful play. We dominated the first half with strong forward running and good back link up play, being ahead 10-0 at half time. The 2nd half became a scrappier affair but a superb try by M Clifton cutting back through about 5 of their players rounded off a solid performance
Colts C Rugby v Caldicott (1.10.08)
Spratton lost 55-40
Try scorers: Lerigo x 4, Carpenter x 2, Schanshieff, Main
In a thoroughly entertaining match, a vastly improved Colts C team lost narrowly to a strong Caldicott side. Tackling was much better and the offloading was superb. Tom Lerigo shone scoring 4 tries, including one brilliant individual score from half way, combing pace with aggression. Charlie Schanschieff also showed quick thinking by taking a penalty quickly and running under the posts to dot the ball down. The game was rounded off in style by a blistering Oliver Main try in the corner. The effort of the entire team was much better, although there is still plenty of work to be done, especially on one-on-one tackling and a rush defence.
Most improved player: Magnus Erlandsen
Man of the match: Tom Lerigo

1st XV v Trent—Spratton won 34-5 (1.10.08)
2nd XV v Trent—Spratton won 17-5(1.10.08)
3rd V v Trent Spratton won 25-5 & lost 20-30 (1.10.08)
Colts A v Caldicott - Spratton lost 14-28 (1.10.08)
Almost a repeat of the Witham Hall game but a bit more determination and commitment was shown. As we now know, Caldicott is one of the best big prep schools in the country and we came very close, especially due to the fact that we probably should have won the game with all the chances we had but could not finish them off. Our penalty move that tricked the whole opposition and Jim running through without even being touched to ‘dot’ the ball down before the try line, we can’t afford to make mistakes like that. However, Jim had an outstanding all round game, apart from that hick-up! We could have had a generous lead of 21-0, however, this did not happen and it was 14-14 at half time. Our tackling was strong in certain areas of the game but there were a lot of one –on-one tackles missed which created problems and pressure for us and resulting in them scoring two more tries. The biggest difference in the game between our boys was that some gave 150% and some only gave 30% the whole game. We cannot WIN games if we do not play as a TEAM! All the players will learn from this experience, most notably that we had the game in our hands and then threw it away. Everyone has to give their all and play together to achieve great things! - Man of the Match and Biggest Tackle goes to Jamie Sherlock.
A tough game that we could have won but threw away too many opportunities.
Colts B v Caldicott—Spratton lost 14-74 (1.10.08)
The B team started the game off well, getting the ball quickly down to the backline. Unfortunately, our DEFENCE let us down again. We soon found ourselves 35-7 down at half time. The 2nd half started well and we scored from the kickoff. Things looked promising but AGAIN our defence did not hold and we ended up loosing the game 74-14. There were a number of players who gave 150% in the game, however, EVERYONE in the team needs to do so for us to win. Edward Felton had a great game along with Ben Keeping! Their attacking and defencing skills were outstanding! Lets give 150% as a team against Maidwell!
Colts C v Caldicott—Spratton lost 40-55 (1.10.08)
U9A v Stamford—Spratton won 20-5 (1.10.08)
An entertaining first match of the season. The boys had to work had for the win against some very big Stamford boys. Our passing down the line showed good distribution, however, we must continue to work on pace onto the ball and watching where we pass. Our rucking at times was aggressive and won easy ball, but we too also got counter rucked from just watching the ball. The boys tackling showed some big hits, especially from Moritz and it also showed some poor one-on-one tackles which we need to concentrate more on.
All in all, a good performance for their first school contact match, well done boys!!
U9B v Stamford—Spratton lost 10-30 (1.10.08)
Playing in their 1st game, there were plenty of nerves and excitement before the game. It was a close game throughout with a half time score of 10-5 in Stamford's favour. There were periods of very exciting play with Max flying down the wing and some great tackles from Tom Hall-Taylor amongst others. We played as a team in the 1st half and showed a lot of determination. In the 2nd half we lost our way a little and there was less team work with everyone wanting the ball!! We ended up losing a game we could have won 30-15! In the coming weeks we will need to work on defence, positional play and working together as a team! Man Of the Match - Tom Hall-Taylor
U9C v Stamford—Spratton drew 85-85 (2.10.08)
